National Education Day 2021 will be celebrated on November 11 to memorialize the birthday of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. He was the first education minister of India from 1947 to 1958 and the First Vice President as well. 

NATIONAL EDUCATION DAY 2021 History and Significance

In 2008 September India’s Ministry of Human Resource Development declared the birthday of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad to be celebrated as National Education Day, every year. The day is celebrated to mark his contribution in the field which laid the foundation of countries current progress in the education field. 

When India got freedom in 1947 very few people were literate. It was very essential for the country to improve the literacy rate and overall education system for the progress of the country. This is where the first education minister played a major role.

His planning’s and ideas helped in the eradication of illiteracy. He also focused on elementary education and the expansion of secondary education, especially for girls.

His biggest contribution was to the Indian Institutes of Technology. The first IIT was inaugurated in 1951 under his regime. He highlighted the importance of research and technological advancement in India. His long-term vision has helped the country in many ways and IIT later became an internationally acclaimed institute. It is worth celebrating his birthday as National Education Day every year.
