Sankashti Chaturthi Katha

According to the legend, once all the gods and goddesses were in trouble, they came to Lord Shiva for a solution. Then he asked Lord Ganesha and Kartikeya to solve the crisis, then both the brothers said that they can solve it. Thus Lord Shiva got into a dilemma. He said that the one who comes first to me after circling the earth will go to solve it.

Lord Kartikeya’s vehicle is a peacock, he rode on it and set out to circumambulate the earth. At the same time, Ganesh Ji had a mouse ride. Then he cleverly did not go round the earth and stood in his place and did 7 rounds of Mata Parvati and Lord Shiva. When Lord Mahadev asked Lord Ganesha why he did this, then Ganesh said on this that the whole world is at the feet of the parents.

Pleased with this answer of Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva sent him to remove the troubles of the gods. Along with this, Lord Shiva blessed Ganesha that whoever worships Ganesha on Chaturthi and offers water to the moon, all his sorrows will go away.
