Urgently form panel to check river pollution, district court tells Noida DM
The Noida authority has issued a written notice to the district magistrate to form a special environment surveillance task force urgently in order to check the river pollution along with National Green Tribunal (NGT ) order. According to the orders from the secretary of the district legal aid authority and additional district judge, Rajiv Kumar Vats will soon form a body that will look out for the encroachment issues as well as monitor the Hindon river in the Noida area.

The team will have members from the pollution control board, district administration and legal and police aid authorities. It is expected that the task team will be formed immediately in compliance with the NGT order the judge stated in the order passed on February 1st this year. Lately, the level of water pollution has risen to a concerning level.
The decision has been taken after there was a complaint by Abhisht Kusum Gupta on the delay in the formation of the committee. Last year in November, a complaint was filed in NGT on the rising level of water pollution in Yamuna. Due to this NGT was immediately ordered to form a special committee and submit a report regarding the ongoing conservation status of the river. Currently, the case is scheduled in court for February 24th.
Last year on 25th November, NGT ordered National Mission for Clean Ganga, the Union environment ministry, Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB), the irrigation department, and UP Jal Nigam to nominate one member from each of their department for the committee. Although, no member has been nominated by these agencies as of now. Last week, UPPCB was made a nodal agency that submitted a report that agencies haven’t nominated any members because of which report can’t be prepared.
