World Book And Copyright Day 2022 Theme: When Is This Annual UNESCO Event? Date, History, Significance, And More

Annually, 23 April is marked as World Book Day or World Book and Copyright Day across the world. The day, supported by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNO), aims to promote the habit of reading books. Since copyright is an important issue in the book world, World Book Day also emphasizes it.

“Read, so you never feel low” has been announced as World Book And Copyright Day by UNESCO. The theme intends to enlarge the reading bandwagon and recognize the spectrum of books.

History & Significance

UNESCO started marking World Book and Copyright Day on April 23, 1995. In a UNESCO general meeting in Paris, it was decided that World Book Day would be celebrated every year to honor and pay tribute to authors from all over the world and to arouse curiosity in reading books. It is also an objective to promote literacy across the world through this day.

World Book Day is celebrated in different ways in different countries around the globe, Such as in pain, a Reading Marathon organized for two days, and at the end of the event, a writer is awarded the Miguel de Cervantes Prize.
