Ghaziabad city is placed at 12th spot, increased its place from 18th last year. It is the category of cities with populations between one to four million, officials of the Ghaziabad municipal corporation said. Back in 2019, the city secured 13th rank among all the cities in the country.

The annual Swachh Survekshan has progressed a lot from reviewing 73 cities in a year in 2016 to reviewing 4,354 in 2022.

Officials of Noida authority also stated the city has won the ‘best self-sustainable medium city’ award because it never applied or received any kind of financial aid from the state as well as the state for its sanitation programme.

“We worked on several fronts and were expecting a better ranking this year. We constructed two new sewage treatment plants and the ground survey team was also quite happy. We have been told that we need to improve on sewage management. We will try to improve our ranking next year,” said Ritu Maheshwari, Noida authority chief executive officer.

Noida Authority has improved its door-to-door waste collection and has built decentralised waste processing facilities and material recovery facilities according to Noida Authority.

Maheshwari says that now the authority will be aiming to finalise the city’s waste processing plant from next year.

Ghaziabad officials said they feel immensely proud to achieve such a milestone-  “It is a matter of great pride for us as the city improved its previous ranking and has secured the 12th spot in the national rankings. The better results are due to an improvement in infrastructure with a focus on door-to-door solid waste collection, segregation of dry and wet waste and also the processing of solid waste,” said Nitin Gaur, the newly appointed municipal commissioner, Ghaziabad municipal corporation.
