In the recent development, the Noida authority is said to be installing meters in all housing societies. The idea behind this move is to regulate the use of water and charge tariffs as per the consumption in a specific society, officials said.
Noida to get Water meters in all housing societies
As of now, housing societies are charging water based on the rates in accordance with the plot size. Currently, the authority is likely to put meters so they can monitor the misuse of water by the authorities. It has already installed water meters in almost 400 individual houses near Sector 19 and 27, sources said.
“We will soon start the installation of water meters in housing societies. We aim to install them in 370 housing societies by the end of this month,” said Avinash Tripathi, an officer on special duty (OSD), Noida authority.
Additionally, the assigned authority is planning to make correct arrangements to install water meters. The installation work will start next week, sources said.
PS Jain, president of Confederation of NCR Residents Welfare Associations (Conrwa) said, “The Noida authority has been delaying the installation of water meters for a long time and it is leading to wastage of this precious resource. The authority should take residents’ on board and work towards water conservation.”
Last week, around 20 lac people of Ghaziabad and Noida will see a huge hit of Ganga supply to the areas. It has been paused because of the annual cleaning exercise in the Upper Ganga Canal. This problem arises every year, and the administrations of Ghaziabad and Noida have not found any solution yet. Earlier, many tenders were issued for water treatment but nothing concrete came out of it. Even after giving the highest revenue to Uttar Pradesh, residents of Noida and Ghaziabad still struggle to afford their basic needs.
