Indian Navy Day is celebrated on 4th December every year. The day is observed to honour and acknowledge the role of the Indian navy towards our nation. On this day, the launch of Operation Trident against Pakistan was also initiated back in 1971 during Indo-Pakistan War.

It was first established back in 1612 by the East India Company. In 1971 during the Indo-Pak war, Pakistan initiated an attack in response to that, the Indian Navy launched three missiles- INS Nipat, INS Veer, INS Nirghat and Vidyut-class boats targeting the Headquarters of Karachi during Operation Trident. Due to this attack, hundreds of Pakistani Navy personnel died. The whole operation was led by Commodore Kasargod Pattanashetti Gopal Rao
Every year officials come up with different themes in order to encourage and raise awareness of Indian Navy Day. This year in 2022, the theme is ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’. This year will mark 50 years of India’s win over the Indo-Pakistan war in 1971. Earlier the theme was “Indian Navy Combat Ready, Credible & Cohesive”.
