The top acting accomplishments of the past year were recognized at the 29th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday evening in Los Angeles at the Fairmont Century Plaza.

Brendan Fraser wins best actor for ‘The Whales’

For his work in “The Whales,” Fraser already won the Best actor prize at the 28th Critics Choice Awards.

The SAG card he received in 1991 was something he often used to carry in his wallet, and he loved that item just as much as the award. He felt as though he belonged there. He discovered his tribe because all performers desire to be a part of something. And as he stated in his victory speech on Sunday, if you had told that man back then that he’d be standing on stage right now, he wouldn’t have believed you.

Brendan Fraser continued by saying he couldn’t believe he had the opportunity to work with renowned directors like Darren Aronofsky (the movie’s director) and articulate the thoughts of Samuel D. Hunter (the movie’s writer) and amazing castmates, who are a wellspring of empathy. He never imagined that he’d be given the position of his life as “Charlie in The Whale.”

Fraser received numerous nominations for his work in “The Whale,” a five-day film in which he played a character weighing roughly 250 kg who must confront the boundaries of his introverted life. Brendan Fraser also received a Golden Globe nomination.
