Recently, the Greater Noida authority is looking to hire an e-waste company for 5 years to transport, collect, process as well as scientifically dispose of its electronic waste in the area.

Yesterday, an EOI i.e Expression of Interest was issued by them in order to hire a firm for the scientific processing of e-waste. The decision has been taken due to rapid urbanisation and managing electronic waste. This has become quite a challenge for the authority to clean up such waste. “The Authority aims to implement sustainable e-waste management projects and hence engage an end-to-end service provided for management of e-waste generated in the city,” it states.
Around 300-350 tonnes of e-waste pile up in the city every day. According to the officials, the firm needs to mobilise resources for the collection, transportation and processing of e-waste and construct a treatment or processing facility. It will be responsible for collecting e-waste from designated areas and also encourage citizens to segregate e-waste like computers, televisions, DVD players, mobile phones, and cables, at the source. Additionally, the authority is also planning to make two centres in Greater Noida that help the assigned firm to identify as well as earmark land in order to set up a processing facility for the waste.
E-waste means any type of electronic device that has been thrown or is of no use. This can be any type of broken item or those devices that are no longer upgraded, thrown in the garbage. In many cases, such items are resold to electronic firms where they remain unsold and later dumped in the waste.
