It was anticipated that the flight would last around 18 hours. Unexpectedly, the plane disappeared as it passed over the Atlantic. Authorities first believed that the jet had crashed, which prompted years of intensive searching for any signs of the occupants or the aircraft but with no luck.

On October 12, 1989, 35 years after the incident, an unknown plane was seen circling the Brazilian airport of Porto Alegre. No answer was obtained from the jet despite attempts to contact the pilot. Surprisingly, the plane touched down without any incident close to the runway, demonstrating a remarkable degree of preservation with still-running engines even after the touchdown.

Airport personnel approached the aircraft carefully and started to open the doors from the outside. What they came across gave them the chills.

They found 92 complete skeletons of the people who were on board, including 88 passengers and 4 staff members. Amazingly, they were all firmly seated in their seats. They entered the cockpit and discovered Captain Miguel Victor Cury’s skeletal remains there, still holding the steering wheel.
