Mumbai Indians Boosts Training Efforts with Shabnim Ismail and Issy Wong Joining Camp
The Mumbai Indians’ preparations for the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) received a major boost as speedsters Shabnim Ismail and Issy Wong joined the camp in Mumbai. The defending champions are gearing up for the WPL 2024 season, set to commence on February 23.
Shabnim Ismail and Isabelle Wong participated in the team’s first practice session on the seventh day of the camp. Mentor and Bowling Coach, Jhulan Goswami, worked with the bowlers to help them adapt to Indian wickets and conditions.
Goswami mentioned that Wong is focusing on her rhythm and length, as practicing in England differs from the conditions in India. Similarly, Ismail is working on getting used to Indian wickets and adjusting her rhythm accordingly.
The Mumbai Indians commenced their training on February 10, with new players Keerthana Balakrishnan, Sajana Sajeevan, and Fatima Jaffer in attendance. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur also joined the camp a few days later.
The WPL 2024 season is scheduled to be held from February 23 to March 17 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Mumbai Indians will kick off their campaign against Delhi Capitals on February 23, in a rematch of the WPL 2023 final.
The league stage will see each team playing the other four teams twice, with the table-topper entering the final directly. The second and third-placed teams will compete in the eliminator to secure a spot in the title clash.
As the Mumbai Indians continue their rigorous training, the team is focused on defending their WPL title and making a strong start to the upcoming season. With the addition of Ismail and Wong to the camp, the defending champions are leaving no stone unturned in their quest for success in WPL 2024.
