Machine Gun Kelly ‘had a breakdown’ before getting blackout tattoo

Rapper Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) recently shared his emotional journey of getting a blackout tattoo before releasing his new heartbreaking ballad ‘Don’t Let Me Go’. MGK, who has been open about his mental health struggles, revealed that the tattoo was a result of a breakdown. The accompanying music video also addresses his personal struggles, including his relationship with Megan Fox, a miscarriage, and the death of his father.

The rapper took to Instagram to share a picture of his torso, arms, and chest covered in fresh blackout tattoos with the caption “For spiritual purposes only.” The music video, directed by Sam Cahill, showcases MGK unveiling the fresh ink and the return of his pink hair color from his previous eras.

The blackout tattoo, done by celebrity ink artist Roxx in December 2023, left some of MGK’s previous upper body art uncovered, with various designs peeking through the lines on his arms and the new cross shape displayed across his chest. Meanwhile, Megan Fox also recently shared her own new ink, a “freshly reworked” sleeve featuring birds and flowers at a 2024 Grammys afterparty earlier this month.

The release of ‘Don’t Let Me Go’ and the accompanying music video not only showcase MGK’s vulnerability but also shed light on the artist’s personal struggles and journey. The rapper’s willingness to address his mental health and emotional breakdown through his music continues to resonate with his fans and the larger music community.

Despite the intense emotions and struggles portrayed in the song and music video, MGK’s ability to express his vulnerability through his art has resonated with many, further solidifying his position as an artist who uses his platform to address important issues and connect with his audience on a deeper level.
