Expanding access to robotic surgeries for eligible patients in India

Robotic surgeries should reach more eligible patients in India

New Delhi, March 1 (IANS) – With the rise of robotic-assisted surgery (RAS) in India, experts are emphasizing the need to train more surgeons in advanced technologies to make it more accessible. The Clinical Robotic Surgery Association (CRSA) highlighted this importance at an event in Delhi.

CRSA President Dr. Vivek Bindal mentioned the benefits of RAS for patients, including early discharge, shorter hospital stay, and reduced complications. He also stressed the short learning curve and excellent standardization of robotic-assisted surgery.

Surgeons using robotic systems can achieve better clinical outcomes, reduced complications, and shorter recovery times for patients. Dr. Randeep Wadhawan from Manipal Hospitals, Dwarka, emphasized the importance of focusing on technology backed by clinical evidence in healthcare.

Before surgeons can perform robotic-assisted surgeries, they undergo extensive training. Currently, there are over 850 trained surgeons in India equipped to perform various robotic-assisted surgeries in urology, surgical oncology, general surgery, and gynaecology, according to Mandeep Singh Kumar from Intuitive India.
