Bodoland People’s Front to go solo in Assam elections

The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) announced that it will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections alone in Assam. BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary stated that the party will field candidates in Kokrajhar and Darang seats, confident of a strong performance.

Mohilary expressed confidence in BPF’s ground presence, predicting victory with a significant margin in both constituencies. The decision to go solo comes after the BPF separated from the Congress-led alliance following the Assembly elections.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s claim of BJP winning 11 Lok Sabha seats in the state was met with skepticism by Mohilary. He asserted that the BJP could only secure 12 seats, excluding two, and questioned UPPL’s potential to compete with BPF in the polls.

BPF’s shift from the opposition alliance emphasizes their focus on independent electoral strategies. With the pending Lok Sabha elections, the political landscape in Assam appears to be evolving with parties making strategic decisions to secure a favorable outcome.
