Newly Appointed Election Commissioners Set to Assume Duties Today

Newly appointed Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu will take charge of the office on Friday. A notification for their appointment was issued by the Central government on Thursday evening. The decision was made by a three-member committee led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The selection panel, which included the Prime Minister, the leader of Opposition, and a designated Union Cabinet minister, chose Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu as the election commissioners. This decision comes following the resignation of Election Commissioner Arun Goel.

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury was part of the selection panel as the opposition member. Besides the Prime Minister and the Congress leader, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also attended the meeting where the appointments were finalized.

The appointment of Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu as Election Commissioners is a significant development in the election commission. Their roles will be crucial in overseeing and conducting fair and transparent elections in the country.
