Dharmendra lip syncs to a ghazal written by Bahadur Shah Zafar

Mumbai, March 19 (IANS) – Veteran Bollywood superstar Dharmendra recently shared a video of himself on social media, lip-syncing to a ghazal written by Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar. In the video, he can be seen emoting to the rendition of the song by Mohammed Rafi.

Dharmendra took to his social media account to share the video, captioning it, “Haqeeqat e zindagi bayaan kar baitha hoon … mere kunbe ke log… mere fans mujhe udas nahin dekh paate (sic).” The song, originally penned by the Mughal emperor, was used in the 1960 film ‘Lal Quila’ by lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi.

The ghazal used in the song ‘Lagta Nahi Dil Mera’ reflects the pain and longing of being separated from one’s homeland and loved ones. Bahadur Shah Zafar, who was in exile in Myanmar, expressed his emotions through this poignant poem, which resonates with his fate of being buried there.

The heartfelt performance by Dharmendra provides a glimpse into the emotional depth of the ghazal and the historical significance of the poet-emperor’s words. The video has garnered attention from fans and followers, showcasing the enduring appeal of timeless classics in Bollywood music.

This tribute to Bahadur Shah Zafar’s ghazal serves as a poignant reminder of the power of poetry and music to convey deep emotions and stories of longing and loss. Dharmendra’s rendition adds a personal touch to this iconic piece of art, resonating with audiences across generations.–IANS aa/khz
