China deports wanted gangster Prasad V Poojari, Mumbai Police extradites him back

Mumbai Police Successfully Deports Notorious Gangster Prasad Vitthal Poojary from China

The Mumbai Police has made history by successfully bringing back wanted fugitive Prasad Vitthal Poojary from China, following his arrest in February 2023 after an Interpol notice. Poojary, a member of the Kumar Pillai gang, had been on the run for over five years for various serious crimes including assassination attempts, kidnappings, and extortion rackets targeting prominent individuals.

Poojary, 44, a resident of Vikhroli suburb in north-east Mumbai, was taken into custody upon his arrival in Mumbai by an early morning flight. The Mumbai Police had been pursuing Poojary for several years, with his name previously linked to a failed assassination attempt on a Shiv Sena activist and the abduction of a builder for extortion.

In 2020, Poojary and his mother, along with two others, had orchestrated the abduction of a builder to extort money. While his mother was arrested by the Mumbai Police at that time, Poojary managed to evade capture until now. It was revealed that Poojary had been living in China on a temporary residence visa since 2008, making his deportation a significant achievement for law enforcement agencies.

After China agreed to hand him over, the Mumbai Police successfully apprehended Poojary and brought him back to face justice in India. This marks the first-ever deportation of a wanted fugitive by China, showcasing the collaboration and efforts of international law enforcement agencies in combating crime across borders.
