The Congress has urged MVA allies NCP and Shiv Sena to accommodate VBA’s demands to retain them in the Opposition alliance in Maharashtra. VBA seeks 6 Lok Sabha seats but MVA offered only 4 earlier. Congress calls for unity to defeat BJP.
Congress President Nana Patole has taken steps to address VBA’s demands and requested other MVA allies to consider them positively. If VBA’s demands are met, major allies may need to give up two seats each from their quotas. VBA leader Prakash Ambedkar is pushing for more seats.
The MVA has finalized seat distribution for 46 out of 48 Lok Sabha constituencies. The remaining two constituencies, Bhiwandi and Sangli, have become points of contention. NCP and Shiv Sena claimed these seats, causing tensions within the alliance, especially with strong Congress candidates in play.
Patole stressed on adhering to alliance principles and urged NCP and Shiv Sena to reconsider their claims on Bhiwandi and Sangli. He criticized Shiv Sena for unilaterally announcing a candidate for the Sangli seat without consulting other allies. The focus remains on defeating the BJP-led MahaYuti alliance.
The Congress reiterated the importance of unity among MVA allies and like-minded parties to secure a victory against the BJP and MahaYuti. Patole emphasized the need to protect democracy and the Constitution by defeating the ruling alliance in the upcoming elections.
