Thiruvananthapuram MP Tharoor states that the battle is between Cong and BJP

Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor stated that the main poll battle in his constituency is between the Congress and the BJP. Tharoor is up against Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar of the BJP and CPI veteran P Ravindran. Tharoor emphasized that despite being called a triangular contest, the real fight is between Congress and BJP.

Tharoor highlighted that the situation in Thiruvananthapuram is similar to the past two Lok Sabha elections. He won his debut election in 2009 by defeating CPI leader P Ramachandran Nair with a significant margin. The BJP candidate finished fourth in that election. Tharoor’s margin decreased in 2015 but he still emerged victorious against BJP veteran O Rajagopal. In the 2019 polls, Tharoor increased his winning margin significantly.

Tharoor filed his nomination on Wednesday, while Chandrasekhar and Ravindran are set to file theirs in the coming days. Tharoor’s track record and increasing winning margin in the previous elections indicate a tough competition for the BJP and CPI candidates in the upcoming polls in Thiruvananthapuram.

The statement by Tharoor regarding the Congress-BJP battle in Thiruvananthapuram sheds light on the political dynamics in the constituency. With the filing of nominations by the key candidates, the stage is set for a closely contested election in this Lok Sabha seat.
