How Walmart Consumers Can Claim Up To $500 From $45 Million Settlement?

Retail giant Walmart has agreed to pay $45 million to settle a class action lawsuit filed against it for overcharging on certain goods sold from its retail chain in the US and Puerto Rico. Walmart customers are entitled to up to $500 in cash after the retail chain agreed to pay $45 million to settle a class action lawsuit over “weighted goods.” Walmart has, however, denied all the charges mentioned in the lawsuit but has agreed to pay in the interest of its customers.

As per the class action lawsuit, it is alleged that Walmart had overcharged its customers for goods sold by weight, including items such as bagged citrus fruit, meat, seafood, pork, and poultry in its retail outlets across the US and Puerto Rico between October 19, 2018, and January 19, 2024. The company has denied any wrongdoing.

The class action lawsuit was filed in the Middle District of Florida and indicted Walmart of employing unjust and misleading business practices and making huge profits by exploiting its customers’ hard-earned grocery money. The lawsuit further alleges that consumers were overcharged while buying other products, including items such as tangerines, grapefruit, organic oranges, and navel oranges sold in bulk in mesh or plastic bags labeled as “Bagged Citrus” at prices higher than the lowest in-store advertised prices.

Customers who want to learn about the products eligible for reimbursement can visit the settlement administrator’s site, which features product descriptions along with a list of UPC codes for the weighted goods and bagged citrus. Keep in mind that only in-person (not online) purchases qualify. The settlement will amount to only 2% of your total purchases, with a maximum cashback of $500. Cashback will be paid via online methods like Venmo or Zelle, but there is a backup option to receive a check.

Walmart has denied any wrongdoing and, in a statement, said,

“We will continue providing our customers with everyday low prices to help them save money on the products they want and need. We still deny the allegations; however, we believe a settlement is in the best interest of both parties.”

Walmart Lawsuit Eligibility and Claim

Walmart customers who have made purchases from the retail chain for the past five years can submit a claim online by visiting the website (https://www.walmartweightedgroceriessettlement.com/home) or through the mail by June 5, 2024, to receive compensation.

Customers with a receipt can receive reimbursement of up to $500, and those without a receipt can receive cash back up to $25.

Consumers who do not have a receipt can look online on the Walmart website to view their past buying history.
