Sheetala Ashtami, which is also known as Basoda is celebrated every year on the Ashtami Tithi of the Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month. This year Sheetala Ashtami fast will be observed on Friday, March 25. In religious scriptures, Sheetala Mata has been described as the goddess of health. It is believed that on this day the woman who keeps the fast of the mother reverently and worships her, there is no dearth of money, food, etc. in their house.

It is also known as Basoda because stale food is offered to Mata Sheetala on this day. The festival of Basoda is celebrated with pomp in many states of North India, especially in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh.

The way of worshiping Sheetala Ashtami fast is completely different. Various types of dishes are prepared on the day before, then on the Ashtami tithi, the stale dish is offered to the goddess. Food is not prepared for this festival, but the stale food offered to it is accepted as prasad.
