CPI-M lodges complaint with CEO against Kolkata Police for obstructing campaign rally of party candidate
The Left Front complained to the West Bengal CEO about Kolkata Police hindering CPI-M candidate Saira Shah Halim’s campaign near CM Mamata Banerjee’s residence. Halim and activists engaged in argument with cops, stating everyone has the right to campaign peacefully in any area.
Halim, niece of Naseeruddin Shah and daughter of former Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah, was stopped near Abhishek Banerjee’s residence. She asserted, “The road belongs to everyone. The cops cannot prevent any party from exercising his or her democratic right of peaceful campaigning in a particular area.”
Before entering politics, Halim worked with WB Electronics Industry Development Corp. Ltd. as a business development and communications trainer. She inherited Marxist legacy from her husband Dr Fuad Halim, a prominent CPI-M leader, and his father, late Hashim Abdul Halim, who served as Speaker of the WB Assembly from 1982 to 2011.
