ECI Sends Notice to Congress’ Supriya Shrinate and BJP’s Dilip Ghosh for Inappropriate Remarks Towards Women
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a show cause notice to Congress leader Supriya Shrinate and BJP’s Dilip Ghosh for making distasteful remarks against women. Shrinate mocked Kangana Ranaut, while Ghosh taunted CM Mamata Banerjee. Both leaders have been asked to respond by March 29.
Shrinate made disparaging remarks against Kangana Ranaut, BJP’s candidate from Mandi, and Ghosh offended Mamata Banerjee. The ECI found their comments “undignified and in bad taste.”
The BJP accused Shrinate of making sexist slurs against Kangana, while the Congress defended her. Ghosh’s comments on Mamata Banerjee’s father also drew criticism from the Trinamool Congress.
The Trinamool Congress condemned Ghosh’s comments, calling for urgent action from the ECI. BJP President, JP Nadda, also demanded an explanation from Ghosh for his controversial remarks.
Both Shrinate and Ghosh have been given until March 29 to respond to the show cause notice from the ECI. Failure to do so may result in further action under the Model Code of Conduct.
