Electricity expenditure increased by more than 12% in the first week of June, know the details

Electricity consumption in the country increased by 12.6 percent to 25.38 billion units (BU) in the first week of June. Government data shows that the pace of recovery in commercial and industrial power demand in the country remains sluggish. According to the data of the Ministry of Power, the consumption of electricity in the first week of June last year was 22.53 billion units.

Last year, for the entire month of June, electricity consumption was down about 11 per cent to 105.08 billion units. It was 117.98 billion units in June 2019. According to news agency PTI, despite the lockdown and restrictions in many states due to the second wave of the corona virus epidemic, electricity consumption in the first week of May this year was 26.24 billion units.

In this context, there has been a decline of 3.35 per cent in electricity consumption in the first week of June as compared to the first week of May. Experts say that due to the lower base effect of last year, the pace of recovery in power consumption and demand has been sluggish.

The peak power demand in the first week of June stood at 168.72 GW (June 7), an increase of nearly 15 per cent over the previous year. It was 146.53 GW on June 6 last year. The peak power demand for June 2019 was 181.52 GW (June 4).

For the entire June last year, peak hour power demand declined to 164.98 GW from 182.45 GW in the same month last year.
