Significance of Republic Day

After India got its independence from the British Raj, a new constitution was drafted by the committee under the guidance of Dr BR Ambedkar. Later, on 26th January 1950, Indian Constitution came into full effect. This established India as an independent nation. The date 26th was chosen because, in 1930, National Congress declared the Purna Swaraj, the official announcement of India’s independence from British rule.The day signifies the patriotic spirit of every Indian and independent India. One of the vital parts of the festival includes an exhibition of the national flag and military equipment.

After the official celebration such as Beating The Retreat which marks the end of the celebration. Every government place is beautifully decorated with lights and national flag-inspired decor. The decoration will remain from the 26th to the 29th. Then, the Beating the Retreat ceremony is organised on the 29th of January evening i.e 3rd day after Republic Day. A solo performance by the drummer is conducted known as Drummer’s Call. A popular song ‘Saare Jahan Se Achcha’ is played and at 6 pm in the evening, National Flag is lowered with the singing National Anthem. This brings the celebration to an end.
