IPL 2024: Ishant Sharma of Delhi Capitals Suffers Ankle Injury and Exits the Field

In the opening match of IPL 2024, Delhi Capitals faced a setback as Ishant Sharma suffered a twisted ankle against Punjab Kings. The veteran pacer played a key role in taking the first two wickets before the injury forced him off the field at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.

Ishant Sharma made an impact early in the match by dismissing Shikhar Dhawan and running out Jonny Bairstow. However, his participation was cut short when he twisted his ankle while fielding at midwicket. The 35-year-old was visibly in pain and had to be assisted off the field by the team physio.

As a result of Ishant Sharma’s injury, Delhi Capitals are now a bowler short on the field. They had already replaced spinner Ricky Bhui with Impact Player Abishek Porel before the unfortunate incident occurred. The team will have to regroup and reassess their bowling options in the absence of the experienced pacer.

The incident serves as a reminder of the physical toll that professional athletes endure in sport. Ishant Sharma’s absence will be felt by Delhi Capitals, and they will need to quickly adapt to the situation to stay competitive in the tournament. Fans will be hoping for a speedy recovery for the veteran pacer as the IPL 2024 season progresses.
