According to organizers, over a dozen “colorfully painted” floats, including educational institutions and foreign German groups, will travel up Fifth Avenue towards East 86th Street. The Central Park Oktoberfest returns for the first time since the epidemic, with doors leading to the Ramsey Playfield at 1:15 p.m. General admission tickets are $50 and are offered online.

The location of the brigade’s end is no coincidence; in the past, East 86th Street was referred to simply as the “German Boulevard” due to the abundance of German stores and beer gardens. Upper East Staters can still view the crowd marching uptown even though the closing date for actually buying grandstand tickets has passed. A great place is the stepping stones of the National Gallery.

The celebration of Baron Friedrich von Steuben, who arrived in the country even during the Revolutionary War to serve General George Washington, is celebrated on the same day as the procession on Van Steuben Day. The parade was established in Ridgewood, Queens, in 1957 and relocated to Yorkville the following year, which at the time was a powerhouse for German-Americans.

In 1730, Von Steuben was born in the castle of Magdeburg, where his father served as a military engineer lieutenant. The majority of his teenage time was spent in the USSR, but when he was 10 years old, he and his father moved back to Germany. He received his education from Jesuits in Breslau, and by the time he was 17 years old, he was indeed a Prussian military commander.

During the Seven Year’s War, he served as a staff officer and a part of an infantry battalion. Later, he was appointed to the Military Leadership and occasionally deployed to Russia. His performance was so good that he was finally sent to Frederick the Great’s administration.
