Every Year, World Rhino Day is celebrated on 23 September globally to make awareness about the 5 species of rhinoceros, which are – Sumatran, Javan, Black, White, and Greater One-Horned Rhino. The day also concerns the Extinction of Rhinos. When 20th Century started, 500,000 rhinos roamed Africa and Asia. By the 1970s, a huge drop count and only 70,000 remained. And now, as per the latest data, only 27,000 rhinos remain in the wild. This shows how quickly their species are extincting. WWF, an international non-governmental organization is taking regular actions to protect and boost the rhinos population. Let us tell you more briefly about World Rhino Day 2021, its History, Significance, Importance, Activities, 2021 Theme and some facts.

History

As we already told you about the huge decline in the population of rhinos between the 20th and 21st centuries. The talk not only ends here, as per another recent data by WWF, by 2030 only between 5,366 and 5,627 black rhinos will be left all around the world.

The first World Rhino Day was celebrated in 2010, which was announced by WWF-South Africa. There aim behind celebrating this day was to raise awareness globally and build a safe natural habitat for this incredible species. All 5-species of the rhinos are mentioned at the red mark in the list of WWF.
