The Modi government has given Diwali gifts to central employees. In the meeting of the Union Cabinet held today, it has been decided to increase the Dearness Allowance (DA) of Central employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners. The DA of central employees has been increased by 3 per cent for the second half of the year i.e. from July to December. The DA has now increased to 31 per cent in the basic salary of central employees. The enhanced allowance will be applicable from July 1, 2021.
In the meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it was decided to increase the DA of central employees. This will benefit more than 1 crore, central employees and pensioners. After the meeting, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that this would cost the exchequer Rs 9488.74 crore every year. In January 2020, the dearness allowance was increased by 4 per cent.
Then in June 2020, there was an increase of 3 per cent and in January 2021 it increased by 4 per cent. However, due to Corona, the government had frozen the increase of three DA from January 2020 to June 2021. In July, the government removed this restriction and employees are getting a DA at the rate of 28 percent.
The DA of central employees is increased twice a year. If the basic salary of an employee is Rs 18,000, then he is currently getting Rs 5,040 as a dear allowance. This amount is 28% of the basic salary. After 3% increase in DA, the employee will get Rs 5,580 as DA. That is, it will increase by Rs 540. With the increase in basic pay, the total amount of DA will also increase.
