Sir Ronald Harwood, the playwright and Oscar-winning screenwriter, has died.

His agent Judy Daish stated he died of pure causes on Tuesday.

In an announcement, she added: “His spouse Natasha died in 2013 and Sir Ronald is survived by their kids Antony, Deborah and Alexandra.”

South African-born Sir Ronald was considered considered one of Britain’s nice post-war dramatists. His performs embody The Dresser and Quartet, each of which have been tailored for the display screen.

He received the Academy Award for greatest tailored screenplay for the 2002 Roman Polanski movie, The Pianist.

Sir Ronald, who handed away aged 85, obtained a knighthood within the Queen’s Birthday Honours listing in 2010, two years after choosing up a Bafta for greatest tailored screenplay for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (Le Scaphandre et le Papillon).

In a 2018 interview with The Boar, the College of Warwick’s pupil newspaper, Sir Ronald was requested about what he hoped his creative legacy may be.

He stated: “I do not consider my legacy – I believe it is a slightly pompous factor to consider! All I consider is, ‘Are the performs going to stay in any respect after my demise?’ And I’d be very completely happy in the event that they lived.”
