The Union Health Ministry on Friday directed the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to postpone the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Postgraduate (NEET PG 2022) by six to eight weeks. The decision was taken after a meeting chaired by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
With the constant demands of medical graduates to postpone NEET PG 2022 Exams, it was finally agreed that they would be postponed until May-June. The decision has not yet been announced by NBE but we can expect more information soon!
“Keeping the above facts in view, the minister has taken the decision to postpone NEET PG 2022 by 6-8 weeks or suitably,” the Union Health Ministry’s order said.
The authorities’ decision to postpone exams comes ahead of a significant Supreme Court hearing. For those who don’t know, the apex court was scheduled today and will be hearing an appeal that seeks postponement on NEET PG 2022 postgraduate medical entrance exam.
It has proposed that the May 31 deadline for completing an internship be extended due to “anticipated shortage” in qualified medical graduates.
“The petitioners (with 1500 candidates) have mentioned that they were in Covid duties in the year 2021 and therefore their internship was postponed. They have submitted that they are victims of circumstances and that they were not informed at any time that serving in Covid duties would tantamount to a situation where they will not be eligible to appear for the NEET-PG,” the lawyer for the petitioners told PTI. The plea also requested extension of the deadline of completion of internship from May 31.
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) is a central body that conducts exams for admission into postgraduate medical courses.
