Noida city is all set to get e-bicycles by the end of February. During the first phase of this project, 320 e-bicycles will be available at 62 stations around the city. The project was first initiated back in 2020.

As per Noida officials, work for the overhead shades, electricity connections as well as Wi-Fi connectivity is under process and will be completed this week. “After the trial is successful, 320 additional cycles will be added. The cycles will be available for rent via an app. The prices are yet to be decided. The app will allow booking and payment for use of the service,” stated SP Singh, deputy general manager, of Noida Authority (traffic cell).
All the docking stations have been made around the Noida office near Sector-6, Sector-62 and Sector-30. Also, they have been set up at a few metro stations including Sector- 18, 15, 16 Botanical Garden, Noida City Centre and 51. Authority has installed wireless systems and CCTV cameras for live GPS tracking for the e-bicycles. Earlier, the project’s deadline was January 15th but the arrival of the e-bicycles got delayed.
In the meantime, safety and road design experts stated that such a project brings encouragement among the public because of its health and environmental benefits but the infrastructure around the city should also be robust before its official launch.
“Segregation of traffic is a must to ensure safety for bicycle users. On the main roads the left lane is for heavy vehicles like buses and driving in the same lane can cause accidents. Some cycle tracks built earlier still exist at places like sector 62 and Ranjnigandha Chowk. However, when they are not maintained, the effectiveness of such good initiatives reduces.”- Subhash Chand, Scientist at Central Road research institute.
