FACT CHECK: Taylor Swift Holding Pro-Trump Flag at Grammys 2024 Viral Video
On the morning of February 5, after the award ceremony of the 66th Grammy Awards show, a claim circulated widely on social media platforms about Taylor Swift endorsing Donald Trump for the upcoming presidential election.
A video has gone viral on various social media platforms which featured Taylor Swift holding a red flag. “TRUMP WON DEMOCRATS CHEATED!” was written on the flag in blue and white.
The video was 23 seconds duration. It showed Taylor Swift clicking pictures while the background was full of noises. The footage also included the logo of Variety with “Courtesy: Recording Academy” at the top right corner. At the top left corner, the logo of the Grammys was present.
X user @PapiTrumpo posted the picture for the first time with the caption, “AWWW… THANK YOU!!!” The clip garnered more than 4.6 million views. Thus, Netizens are currently believing that Taylor Swift has endorsed Donald Trump at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
However, the truth was debunked by various media outlets which include Politifact, Verify This, and Newsweek. They clarified that the entire footage was edited and fabricated.
The Viral Video of Taylor Swift Holding Pro-Trump Flag Was Fabricated
On February 4, Taylor Swift created history by winning the award for the fourth time and becoming “the first artist ever to win in the category four times.” The award for the Best Pop Vocal Album was also conferred to Taylor Swift. She won the awards for her tenth studio album, “Midnights.”
After seeing the video on X, netizens anticipated whether Taylor would re-endorse current President Joe Biden or not. As the video featuring Taylor Swift holding the pro-Trump flag went viral, it gathered a myriad of traction online. The footage seemed authentic. However, as per Newsweek‘s reports, it was purely fabricated as none of the mainstream media covered it.
Real Video Released
Previously, Taylor has also criticized Donald Trump and never revealed any interest in endorsing him. Verify This reported that the original video was clicked by Variety, in which the singer could be spotted with bare hands wearing black gloves.
The flag in the circulated video is available on eBay. Thus, as per The Verify’s reports, the image may have been extracted from there. The video also showcases only the singer’s body moving while her hands remain motionless.
Meanwhile, Grammys 2024 published the original video in which Taylor could be spotted walking the Grammys red carpet. She didn’t hold the anti-Democrat or pro-Trump flag.
Based on all these proofs, it can be said that the viral video is totally ‘FAKE.’
