Turkish Women’s Cup: Manisha steals the thunder in closely-fought Estonia battle

The Indian senior women’s football team created history by securing a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Estonia in the Turkish Women’s Cup. This marks the first time the Indian side has defeated a team from the UEFA confederation in an official match. The match, held at the Gold City Sports Complex in Alanya, Turkey, saw India taking the lead in the 17th minute through a goal by Manisha Kalyan, only for Estonia to equalize in the 32nd minute. Despite a late surge by Estonia, India managed to hold on for the win.

India started the match with a strategy of hitting Estonia on the counter, and this paid off when Manisha Kalyan scored the opening goal in the 17th minute. Despite Estonia equalizing in the 32nd minute, India went on to score three more goals through Indumathi Kathiresan, Pyari Xaxa, and Manisha Kalyan, securing a commanding lead. Estonia made a late surge, scoring twice in the closing minutes, but India’s defense held firm to secure the historic victory.

The Indian team’s coach, Chaoba Devi, praised her side’s performance, noting the team’s resilience in the face of Estonia’s late charge. The victory marks a significant milestone for the Indian senior women’s team, as they had previously been unable to secure a win against teams from the UEFA confederation in official matches.

Looking ahead, India is set to face Hong Kong in their next match on Saturday, with Kosovo being the other team in the four-team round-robin tournament.
