4th Test: Spinners help England take the upper hand as India trail by 134 runs (ld)

Spinners Shoaib Bashir and Tom Hartley shone as England took a strong position against India at stumps on Day Two of the fourth Test. England ended their innings at 353, with Joe Root scoring an unbeaten 122, while India finished the day at 219/7 in reply, trailing by 134 runs.

Bashir, playing his second Test, took 4-84 while Hartley grabbed 2-47 to trouble the Indian batsmen. England lost their last three wickets quickly, with Ravindra Jadeja being India’s standout bowler with 4-67. Despite a shaky start at 112/5 on Day One, England managed a 350-plus total, leaving India in a difficult position.

India struggled with the bat, losing early wickets including that of captain Rohit Sharma. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill tried to stabilize the innings, but fell short against England’s spin attack. Bashir and Hartley’s bowling performances put England in a commanding position heading into Day Three of the Test match.
