Santosh Trophy 2024: Manipur move to the top of Group B; Mizoram, Railways register wins

Former winner Manipur climbed to the top of Group B in the National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy 2024, after beating defending champions Karnataka 1-0. Ngangbam Pacha Singh scored the only goal from a penalty in the 50th minute. Manipur now leads Group B with seven points.

In an intense match at the Golden Jubilee Stadium, Manipur held more possession while Karnataka looked to create chances through wide play. Though Manipur thought they scored earlier, the goal was disallowed for offside. Karnataka’s best chance came from a powerful header, but Manipur’s keeper made a reflex save.

A penalty awarded to Manipur led to the winning goal by Ngangbam Pacha Singh. Karnataka pushed for an equalizer but left gaps in their defense. Despite a late chance for Manipur, the defending champions failed to make a comeback. With just two points from three matches, Karnataka’s quarterfinal qualification chances are in jeopardy.

On the same day, Mizoram dominated Delhi with a 5-1 win, moving them level on points with Delhi. Railways secured a crucial 2-1 victory against Maharashtra, putting them back in contention for knockout qualification. Railways now have four points, while Maharashtra remains at three points in Group B.
