The 66th meeting of the Centre’s Network Planning Group (NPG) on Feb 27 expedited the process for a new 309 km Broad Gauge (BG) railway line project connecting Mumbai to Indore, aiming to boost connectivity and socio-economic growth in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The project, aligned with PM GatiShakti principles, will traverse Nashik, Dhule, Badwani, Khargone, Dhar, and Indore Districts.
Additionally, the meeting discussed the Phaphamau-Unchahar railway line-doubling project in Uttar Pradesh to cover 72.27 km, enhancing connectivity and reducing travel time across Allahabad, Pratapgarh, and RaeBareli districts. The NPG members focused on integrated planning and area development for comprehensive regional upliftment, with attendees from infrastructure Ministries and state representatives present.
The evaluation exercise assessed the project details based on PM GatiShakti NMP planning, emphasizing improved connectivity with economic and social hubs. The discussions aimed at ensuring first/last mile connectivity and multi-modal infrastructure development through a holistic government approach. The projects align with the objectives of fostering improved connectivity and socio-economic growth in the backward regions of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
