The Average South Korean Spending More Than 40 Hours on YouTube Each Month

Seoul, March 4 (IANS) – South Korean users spent a record 111.9 billion minutes on YouTube in January, with an average of over 40 hours per person. This marks the first time the 40-hour threshold has been surpassed, according to industry data.

The data, collected by mobile market research firm Wiseapp-Retail-Goods, shows a significant increase in YouTube usage compared to previous years. The 111.9 billion minutes in January 2020 doubled the 51.9 billion minutes from January 2019.

Over the past five years, the monthly average time spent on YouTube per person has nearly doubled from 21 hours to 40 hours. This surge in YouTube usage is attributed to an increase in the application’s user base in South Korea.

In December, YouTube became the most used mobile platform in South Korea, surpassing Kakao, the country’s top mobile messenger. With 45.65 million monthly active users (MAUs), YouTube has solidified its position as the leading mobile platform in the country.

The trend continued in January and February, with YouTube maintaining its status as the most-used mobile platform in South Korea. The platform’s popularity is expected to continue to grow in the coming months as more users engage with its content.

Overall, the rise in YouTube usage in South Korea reflects the platform’s increasing influence and appeal among users. As more individuals turn to online video content for entertainment and information, YouTube’s reach and engagement are expected to expand even further in the future.
