Kamala Harris calls for ceasefire and increased aid in meeting with Israeli war cabinet member

US Vice President Kamala Harris met with Benny Gantz, former Israeli defence minister, urging an immediate ceasefire and the increase of humanitarian assistance in Gaza. Harris’ call for a ceasefire followed a tragic incident that killed scores of Palestinians in Gaza City.

During the meeting, Harris discussed the urgency of achieving a hostage deal and welcomed Israel’s constructive approach to the talks. She also expressed deep concern about the humanitarian conditions in Gaza and the recent tragedy around an aid convoy in northern Gaza.

Harris urged Israel to take additional measures to increase the flow of humanitarian assistance into Gaza and ensure safe distribution to those in need. The meeting between the two officials highlights the growing rift between President Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the handling of the war.

This meeting comes at a time of heightened tensions in the region, with both sides facing criticism for the civilian casualties and humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The international community continues to call for an immediate ceasefire to end the violence and improve the situation for Palestinian civilians affected by the conflict.
