Rescued JCO of Indian Army Abducted in Manipur (Lead)

A serving Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army, Naib Subedar Konsam Kheda Singh, was kidnapped from his home in Manipur’s Thoubal district on Friday morning. The security forces successfully rescued him in a coordinated joint search operation later in the evening.

The abduction of the JCO, a resident of Charangpat Mamang Leikai in Thoubal district, was reportedly an extortion attempt as his family had previously received threats. The JCO is currently at the Waikhong police station in Thoubal district, and further investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the abduction.

Following the incident, a thorough checking of vehicles on National Highway-102 (Imphal-Moreh) was carried out, and security forces are actively involved in ensuring the safety of soldiers and security personnel in the region. The recent history of ethnic violence in Manipur has led to targeted attacks on military and law enforcement personnel and their families.

In a similar incident on February 27, Additional Superintendent of Police (Operations) Amit Singh was attacked, abducted, and intimidated by armed assailants in Imphal. However, due to the timely intervention by security forces, he was safely rescued, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by security personnel in the region.
