Springfield Sci-Tech High School Faces Lockdown After Brawl Leads to Shooting

A gun was fired at the Springfield Sci-Tech High School of Science and Technology which has invaded the news headlines. The gun firing happened during a brawl between the students inside the school. This incident occurred around 2:10 p.m. on Monday, reported Times Now.

The spokesman for Springfield Police, Ryan Walsh reported that they received a report about a significant disturbance inside the school from a resource officer.

Ryan Walsh stated, “One suspect had a firearm, struck a victim, and fired one shot from within the school hallway, through a window outside.”

A brawl broke out among the students of the Springfield Sci-Tech High School of Science and Technology, in which one of the suspects got serious injuries from getting shot as well.

According to Walsh, a preliminary investigation was done, which showed that a student broke a security door and let the assailants inside.

Trent Duda, the head of the detective bureau has kept one suspect in custody.

Video Goes Viral on Social Media of Springfield Sci-Tech High School

Videos of the shooting got circulated all over the internet on Monday. The video featured two men, donned in black clothing fighting with another man wearing red pants and a gray shirt.

In the video, someone can be heard shouting, “He’s got a gun!”

According to Masslive.com, Sophomore Nylaisha Reyes, who was on the third floor when the incident broke out, said that she saw around seven police officers and two ambulances on the scene.

She stated clearing the conflicting rumors all over the internet, “I heard that supposedly three people were shot, one was pistol-whipped, one student was grazed in the head with a bullet, and one was shot in the eye.”

Implications

WWLP reported that, a lockdown has been initiated by the school as a precautionary measure.

Daniel Warwick, Superintendent of Springfield Sci-Tech High School stated,

“The situation is being promptly and comprehensively addressed with a thorough police and school district response. The safety of students and staff is the top priority for Springfield Public Schools, and the district is committed to fully investigating the details of this matter.”
