Bangladesh removes struggling Litton Das from third ODI squad against SL

Chattogram, March 16 (IANS) – Bangladesh have made a significant change to their squad for the crucial third ODI against Sri Lanka by dropping Litton Das and bringing in Jaker Ali as the wicketkeeper-batter. The decision to release Das comes after his recent struggles with the bat and advice from the team management to gain match practice in the Dhaka Premier League.

Das, a consistent performer for Bangladesh, faced a dip in form in the recent series against Sri Lanka, being out without scoring in the first two ODIs and failing to impress in the T20Is. In his place, Jaker Ali has been added to the squad, having shown promise with a resilient 68 in the first T20I against Sri Lanka.

Gazi Ashraf Hossain, chairman of the Bangladesh selection panel, emphasized Jaker Ali’s importance in bolstering the team’s batting lineup, especially with the series on the line. The selectors’ focus on performance and adaptability led to the decision to bring in Ali, providing more options and flexibility in the middle order.

“With the series hanging in the balance, we believe Jaker Ali’s addition will provide the team with more options and flexibility in the middle order,” said Hossain in a statement. “Considering Litton’s recent performance, we opted for this change, mindful of the availability of two other capable openers within the squad.”

With Anamul Haque, Tanzid Hasan, and Soumya Sarkar in contention for the opening slot alongside other talented players, Bangladesh is looking to strengthen their batting unit and secure victory in the upcoming ODI. The squad for the third ODI includes a mix of experienced players and promising youngsters, aiming for a successful outcome in the crucial match.
