Fairfax County Shooting: One Teen Fatally Shot Dead, Suspect on Run

On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, a teenager was fatally shot, and the suspect was on the run in the evening.

The incident occurred near a hotel in the McNair area of Fairfax County, Virginia.

The Fairfax County Police Department reported that they responded around 3:50 p.m. to the 13000 block of Coppermine Road. When reached the scene, they discovered three teenagers involved in a physical altercation, according to Fox News.

A teen was killed in this shooting.

Fairfax County Shooting Kills A Teen

Brooke Wright, the Deputy Chief, stated that one of the teenagers pulled out a firearm after the fight and fired about three rounds at the other two.

The Deputy Chief added that the officers were highly distressed about witnessing the “tragic incident.”

In a press conference, he said,

“We have a teenager who is dead and shouldn’t be. And I can’t imagine anything more devastating for that kid’s family.”

Police responded to a 911 call on Wednesday. The call was about “multiple shots fired in the 13000 block of Coppermine Road.”

When police arrived, they found a victim “suffering from life-threatening injuries.”

Officers transferred one victim immediately to the hospital.

However, the teen died of injuries in the local hospital. 

 Washington Post reported that the police officials believe that a huge brawl escalated from a fight among the three teens.

It is not known how many times the teenager was shot. 

As the suspect fled, Coates Elementary School in Herndon, nearby, was alerted to be on high security. Officials “received information that the suspect may have fled toward the school.”

The security alert at the school was lifted around 5:45 p.m., and students were reunited with their parents.

As per Fox News, police regarded the suspect as a “Hispanic male” donned up in all black clothing. 

Lt. Wright stated,

“We’re doing everything we can to get the suspect into custody. We’ll be collecting all the evidence we can to bring this case to justice.”
