Four Fishermen Feared Dead in Dumboor Lake, Tripura

At least four fishermen are feared dead as their makeshift ‘Mancha’ collapsed due to a Norwester wind at Dumboor Lake in Tripura’s Dhalai district, officials said on Sunday. One body has been recovered so far. The fishermen often stay in the ‘Mancha’ for fishing in the lake.

According to an official of Dhalai District administration, the collapse occurred late on Saturday night due to the Norwester wind and rain. The four fishermen fell into the deep water of the lake. State disaster management personnel recovered one body, while NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) personnel were called for the search operation.

The incident took place near a hydel power project from where the state’s main River Gomati originates. Senior district administration officials are currently stationed in the area, which is 120 km south of Agartala. Further details about the mishap are awaited as the search operation continues.

The fishermen’s tragic death serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by those working in the fishing industry. The collapse of the ‘Mancha’ highlights the need for safety measures to be put in place to protect the livelihoods of fishermen and prevent such accidents in the future.
