Madhya Pradesh: Ex-Congress MLA Shashank Bhargava switches to BJP

Former Congress MLA Shashank Bhargava joins BJP ahead of Lok Sabha polls

In a significant development, former Congress MLA Shashank Bhargava has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Bhargava, who was elected as an MLA from Vidisha Assembly seat in Madhya Pradesh in 2018, was considered a potential candidate against former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan from the Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency.

The switch in allegiance from Congress to BJP came as a surprise to many, as Bhargava was welcomed into the BJP by none other than Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, and state unit BJP president VD Sharma. Chouhan himself is contesting from the Vidisha Lok Sabha seat, a move that has stirred up political dynamics in the region.

This move is seen as a setback to the Congress party, which is yet to announce its candidate against Chouhan in the upcoming elections. Chouhan, who served as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh from 2005 before the recent change in government, has a strong political influence in the Vidisha constituency, having been elected as an MP five times from the region.

The entry of Shashank Bhargava into the BJP camp has added a new dimension to the electoral landscape in Madhya Pradesh, with the BJP consolidating its position and gearing up for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. This shift in political alliances highlights the fluid nature of Indian politics and sets the stage for an interesting electoral battle in the region.
