Delhi court requests Tihar officials to respond to BRS leader Kavitha’s plea claiming lack of home-cooked food and medicines
A Delhi court has asked Tihar Jail authorities to respond to a plea by BRS MLC K. Kavitha, alleging that she wasn’t provided with home-cooked food, a mattress, medicines, or allowed to wear jewellery. This comes after she was sent to judicial custody till April 9 in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.
Kavitha, the daughter of BRS President and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, had been granted permission to have home-cooked food and other essentials, which were not provided to her in the jail despite court orders.
The court has now summoned a response from the jail authorities regarding the allegations made by Kavitha. The matter is set to be heard on Saturday to address the issue raised by the MLC.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Kavitha on March 15 after searches at her residence in Hyderabad. The agency is investigating her role in the case and looking into the proceeds of crime and others involved in the activities related to it.
Special Counsel for ED Zoheb Hossain argued that Kavitha was involved in paying kickbacks and establishing a money laundering ecosystem through her proxy, which generated proceeds of crime worth Rs 192.8 crore.
The court’s decision to inquire into the allegations made by Kavitha indicates a move towards ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their status, are treated fairly and in accordance with the law.
