116 votes cast through EC’s ‘Home Voting’ in J&K’s Udhampur: Election Commission data
Home voting conducted successfully in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district. Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai oversaw the process. Out of 124 postal ballot votes, only 116 were cast in various assembly constituencies. This initiative aims to increase voter turnout, especially among the elderly and persons with disabilities. The Udhampur Lok Sabha seat will go to polls on April 19 in the first phase of the election.
Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai highlighted that the Election Commission of India (ECI) introduced home voting for the first time in this Lok Sabha election. “This initiative aims to facilitate voting for elderly citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) at their homes as polling teams are reaching their doorsteps to enable them to cast votes for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections,” she said.
The initiative aims to increase voting percentage ensuring that no voter is left behind as every vote counts. With a total of 124 postal ballot votes in the district, votes were distributed in AC-59 Udhampur West, AC-60 Udhampur East, AC-61 Chenani, AC-62 Ramnagar, and even in the district jail.
The Udhampur Lok Sabha seat will go to polls in the first phase of the election on April 19. This innovative approach to voting is expected to bring more people, especially those who face challenges in physically going to polling booths, to participate in the democratic process.
