After inmate dies, TN police arrest warden and psychologist of private rehab facility

The warden and psychologist of a private de-addiction centre in Kovilpalayam, Coimbatore, were arrested in connection with the death of a 20-year-old inmate, Kishore. Kishore, son of a doctor and a Computer Science student, was admitted to the centre for ganja addiction on February 28. The incident occurred when Kishore turned violent and was restrained by the warden and psychologist, leading to his suffocation and eventual death.

The Kovilpalayam police in Coimbatore district arrested the warden, M. Aravind Hari, and psychologist B. Jeba Prasannaraj on Saturday. Kishore’s violent behavior on Friday resulted in the warden and psychologist using duct tape and a belt to contain him, leading to his suffocation. He was rushed to a hospital but passed away during the early hours of Saturday.

According to police reports, Kishore was one of the more than fifty inmates at the Helping Hands De-Addiction centre in Kovilpalayam. Sub Inspector Gnansskaran mentioned that a case has been registered under Section 304(2) of the IPC for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Both Jeba Prasannaraj and Arvind Hari have been arrested in connection with the incident.
