'India electronics manufacturing sector to employ 4.5 mn people in next few years'
Mumbai, Feb 28 (IANS) The Indian electronics manufacturing sector aims to double its workforce from 2 million to 4.5 million in the coming years, focusing on initiatives like local chip production, stated S. Krishnan, Secretary, IT Ministry during the ‘India Digital Summit’ (IDS) 2024.
Krishnan highlighted semiconductor manufacturing as a key area for growth, stating, “More companies are likely to come into the space. I think that is the space to grow over the next five to 10 years. Our interest in semiconductors is open.”
Speaking at a virtual fireside chat with Deepak Jacob, Group General Counsel, Dream Sports, Krishnan emphasized the potential for the digital economy to flourish in the near future.
Addressing concerns on regulation, the IT Ministry secretary assured that while prioritizing consumer protection and diverse needs, regulations are scrutinized to ensure the protection of user information.
The two-day ‘IDS 2024,’ organized by IAMAI in collaboration with several government bodies such as MeitY, MIB, Union Ministry of Tourism, UIDAI, I4C, Government eMarketplace, In-Space, and ‘Skill India Digital,’ provided a platform for discussions on key topics shaping India’s digital landscape.
