In the recent news, former kickboxer and ‘Big Brother ‘fame Andrew Tate has been banned from social media platforms Facebook and Twitter. He has violated the policies due to which such action has been taken against him.
He rose to fame when he was eliminated from the hit TV show Big Brother over a video of him attacking a woman. Later he was also banned from Twitter for his misogynistic statement that women should bear the responsibility for being sexually assaulted. He was widely criticized online for saying that.
In the released statement by Meta, they stated that the kickboxer has been banned from its platform for violating its policies on dangerous organizations and individuals but did not provide further details.
This is not the first time Tate has done something like this, earlier he uploaded videos promoting misogyny and criticizing women’s take on rape and sexual assault. He has 4.7 million Instagram followers on his account at the time he was removed.
The type of content he likes to post always raised concerns about the effect it will have on the real world. Especially the younger generation who follows him on social media platforms.
Joe Mulhall, director of research at the group, said Andrew Tate “poses a genuine threat to young men, radicalizing them towards extremism misogyny, racism and homophobia”.
He added: “We’ve provided significant evidence to the major social media platforms, including Meta, about his activity and why he must be removed.
“We welcome Meta’s swift action to remove Andrew Tate and we’ll be putting pressure on TikTok to follow this example. They must act now to prevent the further spread of these extremist views.”
A TikTok spokesperson told the BBC: “Misogyny is a hateful ideology that is not tolerated on TikTok.
